The French Hotdog

While the concept of French fries and French toast were not new to me upon arrival in Denmark, the idea of a French hotdog was. It can be found at nearly every fast food shop in Aalborg and is dubbed "French" because of its baguette style bun. They are wonderfully delicious and ingeniously engineered so that the ketchup, spicy ketchup, garlic sauce, mustard, and/or fry sauce go neatly into the bun for a virtually "no mess" treat. And I was quite surprised to find these baguette style hotdog buns in the store today. I figured it was just a fast food offering. Buns like these would be great back home. :-)
Aside from noticing the hotdog buns at the store today, I also noticed some oreo cookies which I had previously been told did not exist in Denmark. Apparently my sources had never shopped at Fotex! I hadn't shopped at Fotex until today because of its distance from my apartment, but I decided to stop on my way home from the doctor. Its almost a Danish version of Walmart in that it has groceries along with other consumer goods. Also, its the only place so far that I've seen with Syrup. The syrup containers here are relatively small , just 25o ml, and there were only 2 brands priced at about 6 dollars a bottle. Pricey. The doctor visit was okay. I have a lot of peace corps paper work that needed to be filled out by a physician. He was rather overwhelmed by the extensive-ness of it so he gave me the booster shots today and rescheduled the rest of the examination for next Friday. Surprisingly, at least to me, everything today was free. I knew the appointment would be, but I thought for sure there would be a charge for the inoculations. He said I wouldn't even be charged for the TB test/x-ray that will be done by the hospital. Wooo socialized medicine! He also had a lot to say about American medical practice on the whole and why its so expensive. It was interesting.
The weather today has been crappy. Not snowing crappy though, so thats lucky. The wind though is seriously taking off the shingles. Its terrible. And its been raining all day. Lucky for me I made it to the doctor and back before the brunt of it (which is still going on). Keep your fingers crossed that it clears up for the rest of the weekend, I want viking ruins! A guy from my English class said we would go treasure hunting in the ruins! Sweet!
